The Innocents

We look to the innocents

For some release,

When nothing else

Can give us peace.

When beauty and innocence

We see in truth,

We look to go back

To such innocent youth.

When our World is of darkness,

And feelings of pain

Take hold of our heart,

There can be no gain.

So we thank the innocents

For a little release,

But know the darkness

Allows no peace.

Wow! I didn't know you were a (subverted) poet?!

I confess HJ I didn't even know what subverted poetry is (I've now googled it!) It would seem that I have 'naturally' used certain themes/words (innocence, childhood, memory) as a vehicle to express certain thoughts and feelings. It's very interesting and has made me look at some of my pieces again, with maybe a greater understanding (even though I'm the one who wrote it!) Thanks HJ, your comments are always most welcome and your knowledge most useful.
