Born at your feet,

You picked me from the ground

Like the beautiful flower I was,

Held me until I didn’t hear a sound.

At your knees

With your help I stood on my own,

First taste of freedom

First taste of being a man of my own.

Grew to your chest

You showed me how to have taste.

Love a woman with all your might,

Show her how you’ll always be by her side.

As I grew,

So did the expectations.

I could no longer give in to my inner sensations.

You showed me how to get through it

Tough days were on their way

But I knew exactly how to play.

Now I see eye to eye

And I feel so ready to fly.

I open my wings without fear

Knowing if a fateful night shall allow me to fall, you’d be here.

One day I’ll take the faithful leap of

Picking up a boy and turning him to a man.

I’ll let him know that life is just trails in the sand.

I’ll teach him the lessons you taught me,

I know he’ll be a man

And it’s all because of the way you taught me.

This is so beautiful! And for some reason, it reminds me of the song 'I'm Still Here' from Treasure Planet. I like this poem a lot.

Thank you so much! It does have that kind of declaring of the self vibe like 'I'm Still Here' does!
