I Swear!

Dew beaded;

I slipped and slid,

scrabbled behind a gravestone.

He chased me

through marble and stone,

along grass and pebbled pathways.

I faked left but

he chased after

my give-away shadow.

I fled again,

dashed away...

then stumbled to my knees.

Leaning over me

the whites of

his eyes sizzle with hatred.

If I could kill him

would I survive?

I swore an oath to a dead man.
