An indifferent love story

Another Love Story

By Logan Byrum

It started when he was a young boy. His mom told him to be the man in the house and he assumed that role. He learned to respect women and to be a good man but very soonly realized that men like him ended up finishing last. His family influences his choices. He has a heart of gold and follows what he believes, then one day his uncle died. And it destroyed him, but he started to follow his dreams and started to live for him. Making him proud from the sky above. His uncle always told him to follow his heart and when someone comes into your life right when you hit the bottom you know they are meant for you. When they somehow make you smile when you can’t see right they are meant for your life. And he kept that in his heart forever.

She was the most gorgeous girl at school. She had everyone turning their heads by the way she walked and talked. She was family first and did everything for them. She was a strong and independent woman who had her dreams in front of her and nothing would stop her. Her dad took her out one day and said “ Listen, boys, are nothing but trouble. But when the right man comes he will do nothing but make you smile. He will want nothing more than to see you succeed. And when you feel like the world has left you behind, he will be there to guide you back to the light.” And she kept that in her heart forever.

Years go by and they both had these relationships that never prospered. They thought they found the right person but in the end, they ended up getting broken, with no one there to help pick up the pieces. He called his mom complaining from college that he feels like there's nobody out there for him, and she said “ Honey just be patient, the right one will find their way to you. Just remember what your uncle told you”. He smiled and looked out the window with a tear rolling down his cheek. She called her mom when she got back from the funeral and cried to her saying that she feels so lonely and that no one right is out there and she said, “My love, remember what your father told you. When your days get hard he will be there to pull you back in” And she stood by the window and looked out at the sky with tears on her face.

It was a cold December day and the college grounds were dead. Not a soul to see. He walks to class all bundled up but getting overheated because he likes the cold when he spots this woman freezing and walking. He thinks to himself that he should help but keeps his head down and keeps walking but a bit faster. He finally catches up to her and can hear her shivering and takes off his jacket and puts it on her. She looks up and sees his blue eyes dirty blonde hair towering over her, but she feels protected like her guardian, her protector, and a source of warmth from inside kindles. He looked down and his heart skipped a beat his mind raced thinking of the angel at his feet. She says” I don’t need the jacket” to which he replies “ You are freezing and I don’t need it! Keep it for as long as you need and have a great day”. He starts to walk forward when she grabs his arm and says “ Here’s my number text me when you get to your class and maybe we can talk?” As he nods the sun pokes through the clouds as if it is a sign from their loved ones.

They get to class and get to texting. A spark that neither one of them felt before lights a fire. Something inside them stood out from when they were little, And memories of past times were filled with hopes of futures to be. They both called their mothers saying synchronously, “I think I found the one” with their mothers responding with a grunt and a “why” as if they have seen this before. And again they said, “ They make me smile effortlessly  and when I started to lose hope they popped into my life, Just like how my Uncle/ Dad said they would.”

They had their first date at a park, and both had never smiled so hard before. She wore his hoodie and he wore what he wore when they first met, never forgetting the first sight. Both knowing that this person is special and no matter what they aren’t losing one another. Then all of a sudden he started crying and a flood of emotions spilled, mostly happy and he told her about what his uncle said and how he can see him smiling down on the two. And in turn, she cried, feeling relief,v she cried and said what her father said to her and how he had to be loving what was going on. They stared deeply into each other's teary eyes and knew that they were the missing puzzle piece. Days, Weeks, Months flew by, and with each day there love only grew like a fire that was destined to never die out.

One day he felt the time to propose, and she said yes. Finally never to lose one another. How love, at first sight, can dictate what your life may hold for you. For years on years, they were nothing but happy, and if only he thought to not help, what big of a mistake his life would have been not having the love of his life. And if she had not have given him her number how she would have ended with the wrong one. His uncle and her dad embraced in a hug, for their work was done and now to watch the fire of their love kindle for eternity.
