One Night in July

It was one night in July

When sunny skies had long ago said their goodbyes

The birds all tucked away

The grass not as green

And the flowers remained unseen

All there was, a dripping heat with no relief

No sweet breeze to play through the trees

To calm the night and make everything alright

He was a familiar face but an unfamiliar soul

He seemed so harmless

Too good at what he sold

Influenced by her intoxication

Her high is his elation

She's found herself in a Messed up situation

The loser in this cold game

Emotions she cannot name

This moment she cannot change

He blew out her flame, soon as he came

Now her time has been wasted

And she has played the fool

To let a strangers shadow cover her body

For his own use

She'll awake in the morning

Battling right and wrong

And whether she should take the chance

To put this night into a song

One Night in July the stars will twinkle and shine

Clear as diamonds

Bright over the horizon

A fresh new summertime

Where I'll know

The fault wasn't all mine

One Night in July

Fireworks will fly

Explode into the sky

To break the spirit that lives inside

One Night in July

It moves so fast

When you walk a troubled track

Innocence wasn't meant to last
