It's only a memory now. I knew him as a kind, loving boy, with dark hair and fair skin. He is gone now. But not everyone gets to have a happily ever after. He should have lived a long life, filled to the brim with happiness. But he is gone, so no use wishing for him to return.

His name was Ash. I met him at space camp,  but he wasn't like the others. When he arrived, he was sick. This was supposed to be a gift to him. The others would not go near him. They laughed at the tubes in his nose, for they were too ignorant to understand. I found myself drawn to him. He knew more than the others, that was his gift...and curse. Even when he was far away, he could hear their insults. The camp was overnight, so they gave him his own room. The others were jealous of him. I could hear the things they said, and I wanted it to stop.

"Lola," they would say, "Watch out for that boy, he'll curse you." This was when I left. I sat by that boy instead. "I'm Lola," I said, "What's your name?" "Ash," He whispered. "My name is Ash." I could feel the other's glares, but I did not turn around. That night, he brought me to a beautiful field, with a telescope that we used to see the planets. You could see them all perfectly clear. We stayed there all night, looking at stars and never stopping to rest. That was when I fell in love. He knew so much about everything. He said it was because he never stopped asking questions. About life, about the world, about everything. When I asked him about his illness, he said, "I am dying. I was born with this illness, this curse. I hardly ever meet anyone new, because I am always inside."

The sun started to rise, and I could see through him, like a ghost. Like he was just my imagination. "Ash" I said. "Yes, Lola?" He replied. "Why did you bring me here?" "Because I am running out of time, and you're different than the others." He said, "You need to know what will happen." "What?" I asked, not yet understanding. He handed me a small, fluffy creature, it was fast asleep. "Take care of her," He said, "She will keep you safe. There will be a time where you will need her, when that time comes, I'll be back." "I don't understand..." I said. "You will," He said.

And then he was gone...

Even now, years later, I am still waiting for him to return. It was like a dream. The creature is finally starting to wake.

Is this what you meant, Ash?

Because I'm still waiting for you, and when you come back, I'll be here...
