An attempt at a light hearted take in the form of a poem about the Covid pandemic, a girl has to dream!

He's only gone and done it... locked us down again,

To hide away from Covid, but what will happen then?

This virus is adaptable, is game for hide and seek,

But tired from recent binges, it is grateful for a break.

So while we hide ourselves away, browse idly through Netflix,

Those nasty, toxic microbes take time out to plan their tricks.

They're becoming quite adept at gauging our response,

And giggle quite profoundly at our lack of competence.

They simply can't believe how stupid we can be,

Allowing them to prepare for another super-spree.

Their spikes they sharpen, their strength preserved,

They lie in wait, toxicity conserved.

Hey,” calls Covid, “I think our luck is in,

They're out in force, those intrepid teens.

A stupid curfew cannot dim their spirit,

Domination beckons, there are no limits.”

Infect just one and you're sure of a bonus,

In no time at all there'll be a surge in the virus.

Those teens will secure our dominaton,

By infecting the rest of the population.”

But wait, what is happening, they're standing in line?

While someone prepares to stab their arms.

People are gathering, like a conveyor belt,

They conned us, its a vaccine, we are doomed to melt!”

Come on you guys, no time to waste,

We have to flee, so let's make haste.

Look to the sky, those twinkling stars,

Its time to find out if there is life on Mars!”

It's a nice thought. And you made an excellent poem out of it too, Sue.

Soon, we will have a vaccine and those little COVID bugs will be forced to find new territory. Until then take care of our selves and each other... we wash, wear masks, and socially distance. After all ... 1 - 2 years is not much to sacrifice for a life or a life time. I enjoyed your poem; nicely done!

Yes, it looks as if a vaccine is on the horizon, meanwhile it's a case of staying out of harm's way. Thanks for reading my poem, so pleased you enjoyed it.

Ha, I really enjoyed your portrayal of the virus as a crafty (but not crafty enough!) little monster—definitely makes it seem less scary! One can only hope that a vaccine is soon to come and the virus will eventually be far, far away, but until then, this brought a much-needed laugh. Thank you so much for sharing it!

Your email nudged me back into creative mode, it's the first attempt at writing anything for weeks, so thanks for caring, and for giving me that incentive and for your lovely comment. I really wish this horrible virus would just disappear into the universe!
