My friends all around me,

I’m so happy, and they see

the affect their presence is having on me.

it’s too bad theyre leaving tomorrow

A voice in my head prompts.

I ignore it,

like I do all my other scary thoughts.

We play in the yard

playing fairies and bards

with our brothers.

But soon bedtime comes

and my heart thrums

with anticipation.

I want to spend every last second,

hour with them.

My eyes drift closed

but i know

theyll be gone in the morning

i fight my eyes

tired as they are

until they close without my consent.

when i wake up

i see the sun

and the realization comes

theyre gone

theyre gone

theyve run
