O memory! Where art thou now?

Hast thou left me here alone

to galavant a-woods and by the sough?

Dost thou clamber through the home

you long-ways burnt aground?

I see the conifers and nettle!

are still around the hollow,

and the dust has finally settled,

beneath the thrush and swallow—

but the rose I cannot see—

and the ghost, that memory—

though I hear her softly sighing,

I know she’s lonely dying—

And I— I am blind,

blind and long-ways hiding.
