Self-creation of a poem.

Algorithm

A poem was born today

Into a world of turmoil

And the poem was christened

With the name Algorithm

Befitting its period of gestation

And the step by step method

Of its conception and nativity

This poem had a rhyming soul

And a peripatetic restless spirit

And was rich with metaphor

And allegory, and all manner

Of alliteration and consonance

So that even an illiterate would

Recognize it as a poem by its sound

It began as a simple couplet and

Grew into a verse and then added

Stanza upon stanza until there

Was no doubt that here was a poem

To be reckoned with in the world of

Letters and literary devices and

Itinerant meanings and perceptions

A poem is the brainchild of a poet

And the symbol of Vonnegut’s

UWTB: universal will to become

Because it is quite possible and

Not uncommon for a poem to

Come from a state of nothingness

And emerge beautiful and true

Of its own volition and drive

Without the aid of the poet

With only the symmetry of life

And a heart longing to beat

And soul aching to yearn

And body itching to be heard

And a mind of its own accord

Excellent account of how sometimes poetry writing seems to take on a life of its own.
