Bruised And Bleeding

The sky today looks sick,

contaminated,

and I can’t help but think

of an old bruise

as the sun slips further

towards the horizon.

Layers of muddy yellow,

of purple,

slip and slide their way down,

permeating each other

in a cascade of

one very disturbed

shade.

And as that color dips,

it bleeds;

yellow becomes orange,

orange melts to red

and that crimson drips

from the darkening sky

leaving just a

velvet

black.
