I see them. Every pair of eyes a shallowed fog of grief and longing. Reflecting the final moments of their existence in the wide terror that takes them to their graves.

And still they do not condemn, or hate, or seek revenge. They simply move along the path that they have been placed upon. Not knowing why, or where they are going. They know only that their destination will justify their pain.

But what of the blame. Even if the punished do not point an accusing finger, there must be someone to blame. The world demands a reckoning. Or, does it? Is it the world, the Universe, or the individual who demands that someone, anyone be held to task for such brutality. Who is it who desires the punishment, and who can punish me more then myself?

Who can repay my brutality more brutally then myself. And who knows, more then I, how much I deserve every blade inserted. Only I know how much my penance should be.

But then what of them. What of their forgiveness. Should my eagerness to pay for their suffering out way their desire to move on. Should I have the right to take from them their beliefs and right to follow their path to their desired end?

Can I accept the final declaration of my crimes, step back from the edge, and aqueuse to the punishment? Even if that punishment is less then I believe is fare? Can I accept their waiting hands and touch each, allowing them to pass over on their own terms? Can I free them, and by association, myself. Can we just walk away, they to the realm of paradise, and myself to a state of acceptance?

Can we be free? Can I be free? Can freedom be found within the walls of a prison of our own creation? Can the cell doors be pulled aside? Can the gates be circumvented?

Can...this...end?
