Neal was excited to be heading to Dreamy Hair Braids and Barbers which was a mile from where he lived. He had been waiting for this moment since forever. Neal began growing his hair out in July. He saw a YouTube video on a guy getting hair braided in a cool box braid style. That look excited Neal! ''I'm going to try that style one day'' he said.

Soon afterward, Neal begins letting his hair grow out. In time, it became an Afro flying on all sides of his head. Neal thought he was ready. So he messaged an expert named Sheri on braiding hair in a different place. Neal asked the expert if his hair was long enough to get box braided. Sheri asked Neal if she could get a picture of his hair.

Neal was glad to give Sheri a picture of his head. So Neal messaged her a photo of his head. He felt proud of what he had accomplished by letting his hair grow out. Sheri replied with the following words. ''Your hair is too short for cornrows''. Neal was confused. He didn't want cornrows, he wanted box braids. So he messaged her again.

''What about box braids? Is my hair short for that too?''. Sheri didn't reply until the next day early in the morning. Neal was excited when he saw that Sheri had gotten back to him. ''I'm sorry, your hair is still too short''. Neal was disappointed but hopeful that his hair would grow to the length he needed it to be. He thanked Sheri and left her alone...forever.

Neal continued to grow his hair out. Every day until November came along. Neal would read every hair article he could on making his hair longer. He would shampoo and condition his hair every day (maybe a bit too much). Once again, he thought his hair was long enough to get box braided. So, he scheduled an appointment with a place called Dreamy Hair Braids and Barbers.

Neal had set up his date to go on November 3 at 1:30 pm. He was on his way in his grey car to the place. Once he got into the area, he didn't see the sign for it. He went to the building that google maps told him to go to. Still nothing. He saw a hair place, but it had a different first name than Dreamy. Feeling lost, Neal called the place to see where exactly they were.

Neal dials the number on his LG phone. It rings. One ring, the second ring, and the third ring. Neal hears someone. ''Hello, hello, yes who is this? Eh, this Neal calling trying to find where you guys are. Are you near El Poco Loco? Yes, I am. Okay. Look towards where you are. Okay. Like across from where you are. Keep looking! Oh okay, I see you now''. The hair guy laughs. ''Okay, okay, see you in a bit''.

Neal runs towards a bland-looking building. He's excited! His chance to change his hairstyle had finally come. He opens the building. ''Hey man, it's Rich, hey Rich...Neal. How can I help you today Neal? Yeah, I want to get my hair braided like this''. Neal showed Rich a part of the Youtube video of the guy he wants his hairstyle to look like.

Rich looked at Neal's head then looked at the image. He did this four times until he finally gave Neal an answer. ''Your hair is too short to get it braided like this unless you want to do extensions''. Neal thought about it for a few seconds. ''No, I'll just wait a little longer. Oh okay. I'm sorry man. It's okay...thank you''.

Neal had his head trying to hold back his sadness until he left the building. Once he opened and shut the door, he couldn't hold back the wide emotions he was feeling right now. ''I may never get my hair that long. What if it's not meant to be?'' These were questions playing in his head- as he walked back to his car discouraged for the moment.
