A short commentary on stereotypes and how people use them to manipulate us.

Here's a question for you:

What should a woman's role in the home be?

I'll give you a minute or so to think about it.  When you have, scroll down.

OK.  Here's hoping that you've come up with at least one answer. Now that you have, it is my duty to inform you that, whatever your answer is, it is absolutely, totally WRONG!

Why is it wrong?  Because of the question, that's why.  Anyone who can come up with the above question is either a closed-minded idiot, or someone who is trying to push some particular agenda down your throat and doesn't want you to think of any answer other than the one they've prepared for you.

Any single answer must ignore the woman in question's age, education, social status, cultural values, etc. etc.  Sooo....  be very, very careful of how you phrase things, and look very carefully at what other people are saying.  They may well be out to push you into something you'd rather avoid and be doing their best to hide the fact that they are trying to fool you.

So, what kind of question would be better?  Let's try this:

What could a woman's role in the home be?

The potential answers are endless, and that is what we need to let our daughters know during the years they spend with us, including the fact that one's future role is life may have very little to do with one's home.  If we don't do the very best we can to help them understand this point, the world is going to continue its current, downward spiral.

You are wright, but what do I know, mine is just one viewpoint; as is yours.
I've lived through several generations of changing social viewpoints and I have seen none of them work out well for all classes and sexes. Case in point, the 1960's and 70's.
You may have all the answers, as you see it, but does everyone else that you are talking to? How well will they do with you're assignment?

All the answers? Hardly. I'm not nearly arrogant as to claim something like that.

I mean, a woman's role should be whatever the fuck they want. If you mean "home" in a stereotypical way, whatever they have to do. If we wanna be stereotypical, work, do their chores, take care of possible kids. But those belong equally to the other adults in the house too, that's my opinion.

To be fair, some families or couples work well when women do the more conservative jobs in the house and that's completely fine. Their choice. As long as they have their say in it and relationships are based on equality, people can divide their roles how they want.

Very well said. It's supposed to be a world where we are equal to men - but just try telling most of them that.

Isn't the benchmark men? Isn't that what equality means to broads ?
