I have no wish to lug and carry
Not to anywhere from Tipperary
If I were a well bred horse
A fine one of course
Suited so right with a proper surrey.
Along Main Street I would eventually trot
I would like that, I'm thinking, a lot
To Limerick Junction
Where the trains there function
And my riders have tickets they've bought.
After departure of my passengers, there
Me driver would arrange a new fare
All around Tipperary
I'd be pulling my surrey
Acting like a horse with no care.
Ah, such a life would be fine
If I was a horse, high bred, in kind.
But I'm just a workhorse
Sway-backed, of course
And not from a fanciful line.
