Written in my head while my grand daughter was getting underfoot.

No, no no; don’t touch the stove

Mommy said to her adventurous tot

Don’t want baby to burn her hands

The stove gets really hot

No, no, no; don’t stand on grandpa’s shoe

He’s busy cooking breakfast

Stand on them later while we do a little dance

My beautiful, talented lass

No, no, no that’s awfully hot

Let’s blow on it to make it cool

Then you can try to eat all by yourself

And make your tummy full

No, no, no; that’s your brother’s drink

For now, yours must have a lid

Someday you’ll be a big girl

Sometimes it’s hard to be a kid

No, no, no; that’s icky dear

To get in the kitty’s litter box

Why not sit on the floor with me

And play with your building blocks

Mustn’t play in the bathroom my sweet

You’re still in diapers for now

Mom and dad will get a special seat

And, teach their little girl how

Yeses will come, it just takes time

It will all pass very, very fast

There’ll be school and play dates and so much more

Then you’ll be a big girl at last

It takes time to grow into the things that will come

So you’ll start out on a cute little trike

You’ll get bigger every single day

Someday you’ll ride a big girl bike

Yes, yes, yes; climb up Grandpa Mountain

It’s hard to get all the way up there

He’ll pull you up the rest of the way

And hug you like a big teddy bear

Yes, yes, yes!  Play with your Tinker Toys

Use your imagination; have a good time

Build a race car or even a rocket ship

Run around and pretend it flies!

Yes!  Grow into a beautiful young woman

Be strong, healthy, and glad

Make your mom and dad so proud

But, at the same time a little bit sad

So parents, make sure there are plenty of yeses

To balance out the no, no, nos

Encourage, support and watch over them

And see them grow, grow, grow!
