A poem about love.

paper hearts

we had paper hearts

and we tore them apart

but from the seams

an explosion of color

oh say can you see

the rich dark blue

of the ocean so deep

that steals our breath and drowns our minds

until we are left spluttering and gasping for air

oh say can you see

the shining bright yellow

of the blinding morning sun

that illuminates our bodies as we lay in bed

and lights us up with a halo of hope

oh please say you can see

the vibrant crimson red

of the blood through our veins

because we are one and the same

one body one mind one soul

oh say you can see

the splashes of paint

that color our soul

true to our being

see just see

for we are no longer pale

not black and white or grey

because our paper hearts are torn

and we're stained by the beauty of their palette.
