Inspired by the song Brandy (You're A Fine Girl) by Looking Glass

I fell in love with a sailor

And he fell in love with me

He said “You’re eyes my love,

Could steal a sailor from the sea”

He told stories, and he told tales

Of his voyages through the ocean

I hear the splashes of the waves

And in his eyes his deep devotion

Even if sometimes I doubted

I knew in my heart he held me true

“This is why nothing breaks my heart more

Than what I’m about to say to you”

Some sunny summer solstice

My sailor said to me

“There’s nothing that could keep me

From sailing down to sea.

You are my sun, my moon, and all my stars,

But my heart belongs to the sea,

The world may be my oyster

But the world, you mean to me.”

T’was the last thing that he said

For he never came back from sea

But I’ll never forget my sailor

And what he meant to me.

Thank you! I've always loved the idea of sailors and the sea as well as the great song by Looking Glass so I wrote a little piece to show my appreciation.

Your lovely, sad poem got me singing "Brandy". I didn't even notice that that song was your inspiration; it is one of my favorite old songs. Well written....write on!

Thank you very much! I've only gotten to listen to songs before my generation recently but I enjoy them all immensely.
