I remember coming home from school and being swung into your arms.
I remember warm turkey sandwiches with Doritos and a glass of lemonade
I remember the stories you would tell, and the laughs and we shared.
But I hate to say, that as I got older, those memories began to fade.
The everyday visits suddenly stopped
And the conversations were a distance memory.
Silenced by the no longer ringing telephone.
When did I forget?
When did I forget that you mattered most?
When did I forget that you were waiting on me all this time?
When did I forget that you were there when no one was not?
I am sorry.
I am sorry I forgot.
I am sorry, I took you for granted
And now there is nothing I can do to fix it.
At least that is what I thought.
Just when I thought all was lost, there you were.
Waiting for me with a smile and change in your pocket.
Ready to give me those reassuring hugs
I am sorry, I let life get in the way. I am sorry I forgot about you. But this time I promise I will not.
This time, I will pick up the phone when you call.
This time ill be there for Sunday dinner
This time…
This...time…
This… time…I will not be gone forever.
