A Gap

It started as a tiny crack

that could have easily been repaired

with a bit of concrete.

Instead we stood on either side,

you with your pickaxe and me with my chisel,

and we worked away until we were left with what we have now -

a yawning gap,

too wide to ever be bridged.

Takes two to make peace, but only one to make war. Good things are fragile in this universe.
