  1. It can always get a bit worse.
  2. Irony and dark humour are amazing coping mechanisms.
  3. Nature is awesome.
  4. The best thing about going to work is flipping your mom off when you leave the house because you have work that can’t be done online.
  5. Being able to meet your co-workers or co-students in a daily basis is amazing.
  6. Heat waves are a mind-fuck; climate change sucks but personally I love the heat.
  7. It baffles me some countries debated whether or not corona tests and the vaccine are free of charge.
  8. The whole world tried “kalsarikännit” and it’s the new normal.
  9. I have grown to like Lewis Hamilton and I respect how he uses his platform.
  10. The most struggle I’ve had with corona is the fact that masks are generally made for adult heads. I still use the same bicycle helmet I bought when I was 12.
  11. I could spend hours reading about RNA vaccines and not get bored.
  12. It’s almost 2021 and most of the world is probably mentally still in April.
  13. Finland should address our racism and sexism issue on a deeper level than reprimanding a guy who posted a shitty meme about George Floyd.
  14. Tax information should be public and some rich people hiding their information should be illegal.
  15. Corona is a shitty excuse from the EU to not stop turning clocks every six months. I don’t care what time is it, but can we please stop switching it?
  16. We take democracy as a given. It’s scary because we definitely shouldn’t. In 2019, there were only 20 full democracies in the word. I doubt that number is going up this year.
  17. Women in Poland and Belarus are amazing.
  18. We think this year is ending positively because now there are several vaccines against covid-19. That’s bullshit. That was the easy part. The hardest part will be achieving herd immunity. Over 20 % of Finns say they won’t take a vaccine. It’s too early to say how much of the population needs to be vaccinated, but if it’s a high percentage, we’re fucked.
  19. There are a lot of positives to masks. No one notices if I’m lip syncing or yawning. Wearing a lot of make-up is optional. I don’t have to pretend to smile at people. I don’t have to wear a scarf to cover my mouth and nose when it’s cold because the mask keeps me relatively warm.
  20. It’s been a shitty year and there are two possible outcomes: either the whole decade is doomed or 2021 will be amazing and we will soon forget about all that’s happened.

You have a good top 20 list. Being here in the US, I could add a few (Bye Trump).
For number 17 with the women in your country. Your PM and I think most of her cabinet are women.
And number 19. Wearing a mask, if your with someone who pisses you off, you can mouth the words, (fuck you) and they wouldn't know.

I love the fact Trump's getting kicked out of the WH. Makes me smile just thinking about it. But then again, the elections, especially this aftermath, have really weakened US democracy, which is something that affects democracies everywhere. It's scary to think leader of the free world doesn't believe in democratic elections...
As for 17, yeah, but it's not a 2020 thing. We're having a bit of a government crisis once again, but Marin's been the PM since last December, so her cabinet is really a 2019 thing. And we don't see it as a big deal. Female-led politics has been a reality for me. I was born when we had a female president. No big deal for a 20-year-old, to be honest.
19 sure. But I want people to know if I'm annoyed with them. I'm more likely to say fuck you to someone's face outloud, mask or not

Great Helmu! I assume some of it is mildly ironic and facetious, but if it isn't I still think it's a great bit of writing. Personally, I love Latvian women (or at least one Latvian woman), but that's another story.
