People
It’s not hard to forget people.
They hurt you and they
Disappear from your life.
They forget your kindness
And integrity, whatever that means.
I don’t miss anyone anymore
Nor their cruelty.
You’re better off alone.

This is a poem that I can so relate to, Craig. Says just enough to make your meaning clear.

A lot of truth in this, Craig - how people come and go in our lives. We have all suffered giving to others. And I, in my younger years, took-and-ran with the spoils. I enjoy my autonomy. And I know I'm at my most creative when it's just me in my life. The writer in you, I find, is the closest companion you'll ever know.

A lot of truth and too much whisky. I'm in love with a new muse who loves my cynical poetry, but it's complicated. It always is, of course. She describes herself as a Smoking Drinking Whore. No wonder I'm smitten.
