My take on a prompt about finding your suicide note from the future.

I was going through my mail tossing the junk mail when I came across an envelope with my name printed on it with block letters. I had seen enough movies to realize this is how blackmailers work. I almost laughed as I considered that, you can’t really blackmail someone that lets it all hang out.

I ripped the envelope open and found a single sheet of paper inside. I popped another beer and began to read. I chugged my beer as I finished reading. I’m no expert, but damn the handwriting looked like mine and even the way it was written seemed like my style. It was a suicide note from the future, my suicide note.

This reminded me of an writing assignment I had been given in college. Writing my own obituary had been fun, but a suicide no I wouldn’t do that. I’m way to arrogant to even consider that, no this was a sick joke or something else.

I grabbed a bottle of Fireball whiskey and headed to my living room to think. I turned on some country music and started doing shots. I had to consider this like a story and work it out.

The note was good, good enough that I even questioned if I had wrote it so chances are it would fool the cops. Next the person behind it would need to make it look like I was on edge ready to take my own life. If they couldn’t do that they could plant the rumor. It wouldn’t take much a few choice words whispered in the right ears and it would spread like wildfire.

The list of people that don’t like me could fill a phone book if they still print them, but most of them are morons. No it would have to be someone smart, almost as smart as me, that narrows the list. They did make one mistake, they told me when so all I have to do is kill all the people that don’t like me and are smart enough to come up with this plan in two days. Damn this is going to be fun.
