Taking Stock
As the year draws to an end,
and a chance for taking stock
awaits us, once more,
it is time to put our pride
to the side and let some truths
dominate our thoughts.
What has become of the good
intentions? They seemed so
true, perhaps honourable, yet
unwise in retrospect?
Were they mere flirtations with
an ego so inflated with
self-importance that
humbleness ceased to exist?
Were they crushed by impotence,
or daily drudges or, ... or, ... or?
Will next year be different?
Will we improve who we are?
Become that better version?
Or will we get on the merry-go-round
and spin, again and again until
we accept we’re human after all?
