The Other

He promised me there’d be no one else,

a vow delivered with such sincerity

that I found myself reluctantly

believing those words.

 

Nothing but a naive fool!

 

Years went by, a falsity was built, expanded

and maintained until I finally discovered

that the ‘other’ one was me.

I feel that discovery that the "other" is me applies to much of life besides just relationships. How often we look at hardship and trajedy as happening to someone else until we are facing our own.
