Useful at being Useless

Being asked for help-where someone sees a use for you

Then you’re there and not helping, nor can you

You feel lesser-inadequate and without a use

Then you see them thinking-not aloud but in their head

As if to say ‘I didn’t need you anyway’

‘I brought you because I thought I could squeeze something out of you at least’

‘But I see now I was wrong once again’

So you stand there awkwardly, uselessly, thinking ‘why did I even come’

‘Oh that’s right-because I lied to myself and told myself I have a use’

‘When I was asked for my help I thought-hey maybe this time I do have a use!’

But you didn’t.

Time drags on slower and slower

You notice now that hardly anything is expected of you

Only the bare minimum-and you’re expected to be present for that much at least

But you can’t.

Perhaps if you didn’t feel so useless and insulted. Perhaps if you were in a better mood.

Your mind wonders and drowsiness overcomes you

Nothing is happening. The superior person is thinking. That is all.

You’re expected to patiently watch this hypnotic scene

You begin to sway and your eyelids flutter

You could easily drop to the ground and fall asleep on the spot

Should you not have a duty-a dull pitiful one at that

‘Pathetic’ you think to yourself, yet it’s easy to believe you’re here once again.
