The weak get left behind

That look in his eye
When he finds out I'm depressed
Internally planning his escape
But acting normal nonetheless

Here I lie in bed
I really am a mess
Thinking of this abandonment
Bile swells up in my chest

If only I pretended
It may not have ended up this way
I can't help feel embittered
Thinking of that look, that of a
bewildered stray

That sparkle in his eye
As if to say: stay away
To protect oneself comes first
So one can simply laugh and play

The weak get left behind

That look in his eye

When he finds out I'm depressed

Internally planning his escape

But acting normal nonetheless
