A Cog And A Wheel

Held in a wheel, trapped in my place,

forced to keep going and keep up the pace.

This wheel, a component of a much bigger whole,

and the cogs need to keep turning to attain the goal.

A stick with a carrot is dangled ahead

with promises made for the life of the dead,

but they're leaving me cold, like the sweat on my brow

and I'm going to desert when I figure out how.
