Written long ago in pity of old and semi-forgotten Christmas decorations finally coming down and being stored away...

Not From The Ceiling, But From Heaven Hangeth Thee
...........(or, Ode To An Old White Wreath
..................................Left To Hang For Far Too Long)

.........Faded ho-ho-ho, and hi-de-oh,
...................I’m a frosted Cheerio.
.........Here to banish woe and grief,
...................I’m your cheerful Christmas wreath.
.........Regardeth not my beaten shape,
...................or white, un-seasonal, holiday scape.
.........Forget dust I catch and bugs I breed:
...................a decoration sadly gone to seed.
.........For I uplift those days blackly dragging,
...................just by being an upbeat, pretty hanging.
.........I’m a bright influence for yards around,
...................I swing and I twirl, round ‘n round.
.........And who gainsays that my goodness lent
...................fair grace to the local environment?

.........Yet my day is done, it’s time to roll,
...................into cold forgetfulness of some storage hole;
.........for if truth be told (with a soon/Springtime flair !),
...................my owner sincerely wishes
.........that I were elsewhere.
...................But don’t count me out, or sadly broken.
.........Feel not sorry for this retired token.
...................For every year a wreath comes down,
.........but in glory returns,
..............................................a Christmas crown.
