Alyn hesitated. How Can I Be Sure? was playing in the background.

Georgie couldn’t believe her luck. The main en suite bedroom was free. She entered the room first, closely followed by Alyn who was taut with expectation. Georgie shut the door, blinding the prying eyes, turned the key in the lock, then slid all three bolts in place. The ballad: Alone Again, Naturally, faded into the background. The bathroom was at the far end of the bedroom, beyond the giant-sized bed. Georgie squeezed Alyn’s hand,

‘I have to go to the toilet to prepare myself. Will you wait for me?’

She looked at him so seriously. Was she really that worried that he might stray?

Alyn felt an enormous surge of relief flush through him. A sensational burst of happiness at her warmth. A feeling of protectiveness for her. An indescribably strong sense of caring for Georgie that he had never felt before. He loved her beyond words. She gave him hope. The thought of living alone without her was inconceivable. For the first time, he smiled,

‘Of course, I’ll wait for you. I love you.’

He’d made her blush. She let go of his hand, and pecked him on both cheeks, his lovebird. No-one ever uttered those words to her. Her heart sank at the thought of their parting, the morning after. Georgie needed his love, wanted to reciprocate his feelings for her, but couldn’t bring herself to say the beautiful words, I love you. For fear of breaking his heart. Struggling to control her emotions, she cried inside with guilt. She would give herself to him, then she would have to leave him. Heartbroken, she told him to switch off the lights, take off his clothes, lie on the bed, and wait for her to make love to him.
