As of March 2020 our lives changed. We were told and chose to wear masks in order to slow the spread of the Corona Virus pandemic. The wearing of the mask became the new norm.

MASQUERADE

March of Two thousand twenty,

All of a sudden masks were plenty,

In stores and shopping malls,

Some were big and others were small.

Some had patterns and others were colored,

There were funny and scary faces,

Emblems, slogans, mascots and flags,

Disposable and washable with their own bag.

Just remembering your wallet, phone and keys was a task,

Now we have to pack this weird new mask,

Leaving your car to enter a place,

Has changed, you can't forget to cover your face.

Behind the mask all is concealed,

Expressions are absent,

Speech is muffled,

Only the eyes are able to reveal.

Glasses fogging up,

Difficult to see,

Is this for real?

How can this be?

Breathing is labored and louder,

life feels like the Twilight Zone,

Everything is moving in slow motion,

We should all feel more prouder!

Social responsibility,

Individual accountability,

Doing our part,

Reducing the spread is an art.

To ponder about protests,

why should this be?

It is clear as a bell,

why argue against social accountability.

What about our leaders,

Did they set the right tone?

Were they truly thinking about us?

Or just feasting on political scone.

Reading eyes has become a skill,

People can try to act pretentious,

As they hide behind their shields,

However their windows are transparent and their thoughts are revealed.

I chose to wear two,

The first cotton,

And the second N95,

Hopefully they will keep me alive.

The cotton one, I wash at night,

The N95 I leave in my car,

I put them both on at first light,

Then wear them to raise the bar.

Germs are every where,

Masks keep ours in,

As well as protect us from others,

Wearing a mask says we care.

The Corona Virus will take many,

We all have to do our part,

wearing a mask is so important,

For all of us, it's a great start.

This is funny. I like your description of the varieties of masks and the complications of wearing them. Keep it up (masks and poetry).
