Finding Our Focus

Within my mind there is a clear story-book division

between right and wrong, good and bad;

but now I’ve become somehow stuck,

confused and discombobulated.

I feel like a very inexperienced actor

summoned to take part in what is a most challenging audition.

Putting one foot in front of the other,

improvising my lines,

I try to shrug off the tantrums, the sulks, the rages,

and all those other confrontational things.

They are no more than part of the illusion

life has seen fit to throw our way.

I need to focus on the fact that you are friend not foe.

Together, we have the ability to build sandcastles from thin air,

just so long as we seal the bargain,

hold it tight

and focus on the inevitability of

a happy ending.

Facts, divisions and focus. Life compartmentalized. ...Sometimes one just has to let all the structure go - or, as you say, free oneself from illusion. Love is the great liberator from the comforting sterility of order. and the fear of chaos -- as alluded to in your fine poem.
