Beneath The Holly Tree

“Tis under the holly tree she sits”

“Indeed so, the shade of those thorny leaves that protects such delicate skin”

“A contrast, one may observe; the sharpness of those thorny leaves and the smoothness of such a complexion”

“But such little we see of that smooth skin; the complexion of that exquisite face we see; the smoothness of those delicate arms, but that is all, we do not know that all the rest is of such smoothness and delicacy”

“I take your point. We can see, if we look closely enough, that the leaves of the holly tree are all of a thorny nature, varying a little in hue maybe, but all thorny; no hidden secrets; no smooth and delicate leaf that hides amongst the rest”

“But where as the holly tree need not hide anything from us and indeed it has nothing to hide, she must retain her virtue with secrets; she may not display all, as the holly tree does, for her virtue would be lost with the revealing of those secrets”

“Yes I see what you are saying. She may emulate the holly tree that shades her, both being of nature, but she must shine beneath it with all her secrets intact”

“Both as one; the holly tree affording shade and showing her off to advantage and she taking advantage of that shade and increasing the beauty of the holly tree, but with much of her own beauty hidden”

“And so which affords the greatest pleasure; the naked beauty of the holly tree, or the hidden beauty of the female that sits beneath it?”

“At one with each other and yet apart in their respective displays; but are they really apart? Maybe the holly tree does have hidden secrets, just as she does, yet cloaked in its own way!”

“Yes I am sure you are correct in that and that indeed is part of the beauty; both of the holly tree and the female that sits beneath it"

“Not all has to be revealed, in order for the beauty to be shown”

“No indeed, quite the opposite in fact, for our own imagination will add its own personal beauty to that which it sees”

“Just as it is now I suspect sir!”

“We are in accord I think sir!”

And so they continued to gaze upon the beauty of both the female and the holly tree beneath which she sat and maybe in their mind's eye could even see those hidden secrets!
