Last night

Upon January 6th

Everything felt alright

New friends

Making amends

This was suuposed to be the year

The end of the fear

The year that we could thrive

The year that we could become one, like a bee hive

Shame for my country

Fear for my home

Joy ended abruptly

"All roads lead to Rome"

Was meant to be good

Was meant to be the bright kind of monochrome

Or so I understood

Yesterday was a good day

Yesternight was...

A plane, aweful grey...

People are going to be talking about last night for awhile. It's sad that what was meant to be a good year for everyone has started with such violence. I really enjoyed your poem. I think the shortness and simplicity of the words really held a lot of impact.
