Poem about being in the metaphorical cage that is life.

My eyes are open but I can’t see anything

I’m trying to move but a cage looms over me

It surrounds me, crushing my means to escape

The metal of the cage vibrates as I scream for help

The sound bouncing around then falling unto deaf ears

Leaving me wondering how I wandered here in the first place

Deep inside, I already knew the reason

My rusty new home was built by the hands of others

I let the emotions of people bury me until I had nothing left

The creaky bars of the cage sings me songs sometimes

I learned to love the lullabies they squeak out

I run my hands through the cage as it’s wisdom runs through me

My escape was simple, but just out of my reach

It all starts with embracing myself for who I truly am

Even with all my imperfections, I’m still someone worthy of love

It was at that moment I realized that the key I’ve been waiting so long for, was me

I really like what you've written here; your idea truly interests me. It is so true that we can become stuck; locked into a cage by the idea that we are not worthy. I love the truth that the key to freedom lies within us. Nice symbolism. Well done. Write on!
