I think your book sounds really interesting. It sounds like Maggie has really had some struggles in life, and it will be interesting to see how she deals with being in a new place. My one suggestion would be to separate this into some paragraphs and put each line of dialogue into a new paragraph. It would just make it look less convoluted. Great start though. I liked seeing the background to what has brought her here now and I think it will add a lot to her character and what happens in the coming chapter. Great start
