The Mail Van

I’ve been watching for the mail van

to bring to me some news,

perhaps a letter from you

would give to me some clues;

for I know not what you’re thinking,

don’t know what you intend,

is this still a romance

or have we reached the end.

I see the mail van slowing down,

looks like there’s mail for me.

I’ll walk towards the mail box

and then I’ll get to see.

My pulse is beating ten to one,

I can’t deny the thrills,

but soon there is the comedown

when all I find is bills.

So back towards the house I trudge,

disappointment’s what I feel

for now I’ll wait another day

in hope to know what’s real.

Please write a simple letter

and give to me a clue;

I really have no notion of

how much I mean to you.

88 fingers

We've all been there, but there are those who think it only happened to them. Good poem.

Thanks, 88. That's true enough, although I have to admit this was not a personal poem.

With a heavy, heavy dose of nostalgia for the days before email, FB, WhatsApp and all the rest. Is the epistolary romance really dead? I fear so.

Ha! Yep, more than likely, Adam, although I've got to admit this was in no way a personal poem.
Thanks for giving it a read.
