I found these on a walk near Catonsville College, one a long time ago.

Heart of The Limit

By Unknown Writer

Copied here by Alexander Guinevere Kern

As I walked along the edge of a local street near the college, I happened upon two small scraps of paper, each torn from the same letter. It appeared the missive had been shredded and tossed from a passing car.

I love puzzle-shaped fragments of written communication and I even love the grocery lists people leave behind in their grocery carts. To me they are Found Poems.  (This is Pre-COVID 19.)

Since this was back in 2000 when I lived in Catonsville I do not believe I am violating any confidences or invading a private sharing.  The person to whom the letter is addressed cannot possibly be deduced, nor can the author be identified. The letter was ripped and discarded.

Here are the penned expressions of another’s heartfelt emotions. Even though each piece of paper is about one inch to one and one-half inches in size, the letters remaining, so artfully arranged upon the page, do, in the end, “speak volumes.”

****From the lower right hand corner of the letter, composed in blue fountain pen ink on stiff, white paper.

Not you.

I’ve resolved to myself

Be physically present in my life.

You, so overpowering that

Science and Soul that I

It would tragically cost

Physical Harm you inflicted

By God, which were all . . .

*****Second scrap Upper Right Corner

Heart of the Limit

And forgive me

Rest impacted in

A Hammer struck

Artfully, with hurtful

Because of this

——- Resist.

******Second Scrap (Obverse) Top Left Corner of the Stationary

Dearest Andrew

Still I’m

Uncontrollable I protest

Consequences of

I was gift

Me, I can . . .
