It's been two weeks since papa's death, but I can still hardly fathom the fact that he's gone. In my heart, there's a burning hole. In my mind, there's a blank spot. I can't stop thinking about it, but I need to keep the family up and out. Don't wanna be a couch potato. So, I'm takin' care of everyone. I've found out my mom wants to adopt a kid. Just what I need, some one else to care for, but mother needs to stay happy so, I march onward. Literally, right now I'm marching up and down my street with a sign held up. So is Tiffany. They read, "Tiffany and Tanisha's Protest! Sign the Petition Now!" We've only got... I looked at my paper and Tiffany's too, 17 signatures. I sighed, this was going to be a long day...

As I walked my mom down the road she kept asking me "Where are we going?" I had her blindfolded. Laura had used her money to reserve seats at a fancy restaurant. It would only be this once, but mother needed cheering up. Laura untied the blindfold and made a flourishing movement with her hands.

"Tada!" We yelled at the same time.

"Oh girls, you didn't need to do this!" She said. Very predictable.

"We thought you might like it." I said.

"And the whole meal is payed for!" Laura exclaimed.

"Aww... Thank you girls!" Mom said, smiling and hugging us. We walked in and sat at the little window table. "So, Laura... Tanisha... Would you like... A new baby sister?" She asked as we decided on our orders.

"YES!!" Laura yelled. She had always wanted a little sister. I would've spit out water if I had any, but instead I played along.

"Ooh, sounds... Um, nice!" My mom rolled her eyes, she could tell I was faking.

"If you don't want a sister, just say it."

"NO! I want Laura to be happy." I said.

After the dinner ended we all walked home. I still had that new baby and papa in my mind. What would he say to me? Probably, "Ok sweetie, do whatever makes you happy. Say what you think." So I was thinking, I'd like for Laura to be happy again. And if she were gushing over a baby, maybe I could have more me time! It was my choice, so later when mom asked again, I nodded and told her, "How wonderful, Mom!" And then smiled.
