Footstep upon footstep pushes the horizon further
A heavy shadow drags anchor-like in his wake
Each day runs through dawn and dusk
And the man's resolve weakens with rust
Caught in his ears he hears futility murmur
Life is killing him with each breath he takes
While death waits to greet him as a friend
Giving up now means defeat before the end
