It was a cloudy  fall afternoon. Alex and miles were laying down next to each other near a pond at a park.
Leaves were falling around them. Alex had sat up and stared at the pond and her reflection in the calm glass water. She turned her head and saw a pile of rocks laid next to the tree. She grabbed ahold of the rocks and gave three to Miles. Alex skipped one of the rocks three skips and the rock disappeared.
Miles took the rocks and proceeded to skip one of them he managed four skips before the rock sunk. Alex threw another and managed two skips. It’s in the wrist.
Take a  deep breath rest your mind and twist your hand a little and skip. Miles handed her his other two rocks. Alex took a deep breath and rested her mind she twisted her arm an inch and skipped the rock against the clear calm water the rock skipped six times and sunk. “Not bad” miles said.
Alex hugged Miles and said “thanks...you know today hasn’t been too bad I had fun.” “Yeah I had fun as well we have to do something again soon.”
“So are we now dating?” Alex asked. “I Uhh I guess we are.” Miles said as he missed Alex on the lips. More leaves began falling off the trees as the wind had started to pick up. Miles Took his shirt off and jumped into the freezing cold pond. “Come in the waters great.” He yelled attempting to splash water at Alex. “I can’t get wet I don’t have spare clothes.” “Take em off” miles said. “You wish.” Alex said.  Alex picked miles shirt up off the ground and placed it next to his cell phone on a rock by the tree.
Alex couldn’t help but notice a text from Miles sister that read

“Help” Alex looked closer and realized his sister had called him twenty times.

“Your sister called you a bunch of times” Alex said. “Oh I’m sure it’s nothing. Miles said as he got out from the pond and grabbed his phone. He read the texts quietly and all of a sudden he started to shake and dropped his phone to the ground.

Six years later

Alex and Miles were now living in the apocalypse. Miles had a tree house he managed to build and Alex had come back with food and water.
We have enough supplies to get us three the rest of the month. Alex said. It’s May 7th 2027. “We’re sooner or later we will have to go up to that town we will run out of food.” “I can’t visit the town. I just can’t. Miles said. “I will” Alex said. “No you don’t understand...remember six years ago that day at the pond I dropped my phone.
My sister had texted me “our parents are dead. Someone murdered them for guns.” I couldn’t face it. I told you I told everyone I spoke with that I went home that day but I didn’t. I never returned home. I abandoned my parents and sister.
In her time of need. There’s No way she would want to see me again.” “Is that why you don’t want to return to town? Your worried about your sister? I’m sure she’ll be happy to see you.” “No I can’t face her I failed her as a brother I failed her in time she needed me I can’t return not now not ever.”
“I understand but what if she isn’t in town? What if she didn’t live? You don’t know.” “Please I don’t want you either to go into town it isn’t a good idea and I’m sure she is alive and doing well she is a survivor I am a loser.” “No you are not miles stop putting yourself down.” “I know your right.
Sigh ok I’ll tell you what. When we run out of food again we can go into town. But for know can we drop this please?” “Ok sounds like a good plan.” Alex said as she walked over into the kitchen and started to prepare some sandwiches for dinner.
The ground below started to shake as “the Terrors” were walking passed us. A few minutes later I froze as I heard a girls voice on the radio below us.
“You up in the treehouse. Come out now you haven’t payed your land taxes yet and you need too pay or else.
