Rea
A brilliant smile sent
From a mostly bald head.
A word of encouragement
From a hospital bed.
How does she stay smiling
With Chemo in her veins
How does she encourage living
As her own life wanes.
I wish I could replace her
But I wouldn’t have her grace.
I wish I could heal her
And look endlessly on her face.
Soon she will go, and here, I will stay,
But our faith tells us we will be together, someday.
