By Allen Henriquez

The blacken light

Forward past four a.m. and

the end of the new day’s night

In the blanket of dark the easing of tension anxiety and fear

Hope whispers in anticipation

of some alleviation as light

reveals the day and day pushes

out the feeling of drowning in fear

until days end and its counter

darkness returns

Hope will matter as it continues

to chatter into your greedy ear

I am here I am here

have no fear please

have no fear

let us sing let us sing

let us sing

perhaps until the church bells ring
