I stare at it. It stares back. Within it, I see a void, a shell of it’s past self, barren of all feeling & emotion. It sees the same in me. Yet, I see anger, hate, & rage stur inside of it as a mixture of red, green, purple, & black. It sees the same within me. I see it wanting to be left alone to its own devices not be interrupted by any other thing. I feel the same. I see that it has seen blood-shed & things that would break a normal person, but it had to live with it, to harden itself towards those who weren’t it. I have lived the same. I see that it wants to snap at everyone who disturbs it. I want the same. I watch as it looks down & turns off the sink in the dirty bathroom of a gas station & looks back up & we say, “just a little longer, & then we’re done with all of this, just a little longer.” I turn around & say “I know.” as I open the door & leave the mirror behind.
