Have you ever been alone and heard something that frightened you more than ever?

One Friday night I had just laid my children down for bed. I was waiting for my significant other to get home from a late shift at work.
I went into the living room and sat on the couch. We lived in an apartment complex, but a spacious one. Two bedroom simple layout. Both the front and back doors were in the living room with a long hallway leading to the bedrooms.
As I’m sitting on the couch everything goes completely silent almost like I couldn’t hear anything. My whole body got hot and the hairs on my arms started to stand up. I felt like there was someone in the room with me and I remember just listening and waiting as if I knew something was about to happen. I’ve never heard my heart beat so loud and in that moment I heard someone take a deep breath in and blow the loudest scariest whistling toon I’ve ever heard.
It sounded like something that came out of a horror movie before someone was murdered. I immediately checked on my children called my mom who lived over 45 minutes away just so I could hear someone’s voice and check the rest of the apartment because I was sure that someone had came in through a window or something. Of course the place was empty.

My mom was the only person I ever told.
