A companion piece to my poem 'Opaque Glass', ...well, life can just get you down sometimes (pre-COVID-19, after which life got everybody down all the time). In all the years of time (in all the gin-joints in all the world...) 'One Shot' pretty much covers the quiet misfires.

One Shot

quiet deaths do I die,
if dare I die do I

leach away my aging soul,
remembered as sparkle do I

colorless dreams in a windowless room;
bejeweled aspirations had I

but such is past, cry at the waste,
such bright promise/love had I

age is Life, and I fear it not
for part of Life am I

but what is Life all trapped and locked?
a quiet death do I die

I really enjoyed reading this. Very cleverly composed.
