Consideration

It seems to me that a lot of people have no consideration for others these days, and it would be nice to see a bit more of that.

For instance, in the food stores, the checkout staff often don’t get a ‘Thank you’ or even a ‘Please’. It doesn’t take a moment to say, after all. This works both ways though. There is nothing more off-putting than being served by someone who continues chatting to someone else other than to ask for whatever money is due.

I’m not advocating a return to ‘the customer is always right’ policies; it would be nice to see both sides showing a bit more consideration.

Another thing that people could do is hold the door for someone that is just approaching. I don’t mean this in an anti-feminist way. I’m one of those people that holds the door for everyone. And you know what? It can be pretty amazing the amount of people that don’t take the door but push their way past like I’m a doorman... er, woman.

Again, that seems to me to be simple consideration.

Once started on the subject it’s hard to stop. Pedestrians walking in threes, side by side, making someone walking in the opposite direction have to step down onto the road or push themselves up against a building is another pet hate. This happens sometimes regardless of the traffic and is not only inconsiderate but can also be dangerous.

Drivers, this one is for you. When there is a car in front displaying ‘Learner’ plates, it is not a good idea to go really close up behind it. Learners, and I know this because I am one, have a tendency to brake when more experienced drivers wouldn’t. It can be very nerve-wracking to have someone in a van or truck almost up against your back bumper.

Again, simple consideration, and a bit of common sense thrown in there for good measure. And that applies to virtually everything that really gets to me.

So True, Hul. Back in the day, people were taught to do those things you mentioned, holding the door for a lady was first on my mother's list for me to do. Being considerate of others, especially the elderly and disabled. --- Now-days, My pet peeve is with non-disabled men, often teens, peeing on the toilet seat in a public handy-capped toilet. Some guy in a wheelchair is going to have a real problem when he tries to use that seat. And many of those men in wheelchairs are Vets. (Boy, I wonder if that's a good way to honor their service?)

A lot of people don't seem to care about anything other than themselves, JE. There's a woman that delivers apple pies to one of the local stores and I always hold the door when she is approaching. More fool me, I guess, because last week she just barged her way past me, and today she shut the door in my face.

It comes down to basic manners Mama Hullabaloo, when some parents don't have them, how can their kids have them? Usianguke

That's very true. There's so many things I could have added - one thing I really can't stand is parents that let their kids run amok in the stores while they continue to chat. I was once in a store where kids were bouncing up and down on a display bed while the mother chatted away on her phone until security stepped in.

I have too many little things that annoy me to name them all, but here are some.
people who step off an escalator and stop, forgetting that it is still moving behind them and then you end up slamming into them.

In supermarkets, someone looks as if they want to pass you, so you step aside, only to have them stop right in front of you as they leisurely browse the shelves, now blocking your way past.

Generally, anyone who spends their time staring into their phone and not looking where they are going.

Sorry to all of you learner drivers! but going 20MPH on a 30MPH road.
And to all of you tailgaters, (Morons) I will intentionally slow down when some A. Hole tries to crawl up my exhaust pipe.

Oh yeah! try using your indicators when changing lanes, you fkn dipsticks!

Rant over! Thanks' HB22 for giving me a platform to air my frustrations. LOL

Drive safe.
Regards
