Written long before I had daughter-in-laws myself, this is more of a sequel to the poem 'Cowboy Pete's Lament' than any personal lament of mine. Light-hearted, and not maliciously intended... Hopefully, you will enjoy a facet of an old man's frustration.

Why There Are Damn Few Gunfightin’ Grandpaws

I’d hate to draw on my daughter-in-law,
an' fill her full o’ holes.
But she gets in the craw of her mother-in-law,
and ain’t put out no foals.
..........She beats on my son, most terrible;
..........for all to hear and see.
..........Yes, I’d gun her down in the dusty street,
..........‘cept she’s a whole lot faster than me.
I’m not the bushwhackin’ type, ya know:
I’m too old to go climbin’ a tree.
But my trigger-finger is itchy, sure,
for my Winchester ’73.
..........On pausing thought, I do suppose,
..........the gesture would fall amiss.
..........My boy, he hankers for no one else,
..........and would likely be quite pissed.
So my ammunition will rust away,
and I’ll have to forgo the thrill
of contributing to the lady’s lot,
away, up on Boot Hill.

'Boot Hill' is the common cemetery and potter's field of the old West.

This one made me smile, it is fun, frivolous, and speaks some truth!

We have a couple of Daughters -in-laws I would love to draw on! And I think I would be a quicker draw than them!

Good luck with son's womens an' their wily ways. Stuck wit' grafted-on kinfolk to our dying days... Sympathy an' thanks for the kindly comments! SPP
