Imagine
Many in this world of ours
Have nothing on their plates
Their stomachs swell and blisters form
Cursed by all three fates.
Parents wail to gods unseen
And friends avert their eyes
As we enjoy a mid-day snack
Yet another dies.
Imagine!
Many in this world of ours
Are lost and all alone
A loving touch, a hug at night
They have never known.
They cower in the darkness
And daylight is no friend
As we read bedtime story books
They wish for their end.
Imagine!
Many in this world of ours
Grow up with guns in hand
Watching everything they love turn
To blood and sand.
They live among the rubble
And pray the shots will cease
As we head to the shopping mall
They clean up their piece.
Imagine!
Many in this world of ours
… I could go on all day
While suffering is all around
We go on our way.
If only we could offer help
And speak on their behalf
End hunger, bigotry, and war
Sharing the last laugh.
Imagine!
