Poem about proving myself to myself, one relationships we need to take care of the most.

As a kid, our expectations were always so high

Not being able to do much, all we did was wait

So our future self was often the one to glorify

The only thing on our mind was becoming someone great

I often think of it’s wide eyes full of dreams

Though recently I can never imagine it with a smile

That golden grin and how it constantly beams

Has not been on its face in quite the while

I haven’t lived up to who I really wanted to be

Trials and heartbreak crush me more than I thought they would

Instead of staying focused and sturdy like an oak tree

Life ripped me away from my roots, my flimsy foundation did no good

Even when fallen I drive to overcome my misfortunes

My story is left unfinished so I’ll pick up the pen

By my own hands I’ll get rid of these distortions

I’ll see my younger self full of joy once again
